Keg coupler check valve

Post by D4nny74 » Sun Jan 24, 2016 3:54 pm

Hi all , I bought 2 keg couplers and noticed the rubber check valve in gas side, but the valve didn't seem to have an opening for the gas to go through , any ideas ?

Cheers Danny

Have you tested it? There are no holes. It is a one way valve and seals against the JG fitting to prevent gas escaping.

Mine appears to have a tiny slit( easy to miss ) at the bottom of it which I assume allows gas movement but not beer in the other direction.

Quite often they are a duck bill shaped valve, which allows gas to go one way, but pressure the other way seals it.

I've got UK spec couplers and the brass JG adaptors fit fine. Are yours US spec or something?

the thread on most couplers is 1/2" bsp/ntp (@ this size ntp and bsp are compatible), however some are 5/8" just to be awkward, mainly US style with integrated prvs in my limited experience.

a visit to a plumbers merchant which stocks the brass bsp pipe fitting range can come in useful to identify threads also the wikipedia entry for bsp threads has an informative table that helps ID threads ;)

This is why:
The Malt Miller wrote:The threads on this coupler are 5/8".
I'm sure they used to sell the 1/2" bsp to 5/8" converter but I can't see it on their website.
