Brewferm first kit
Re: Brewferm first kit
Had a bottle of my Abdij last night,bottled in PET on 6.12.15 @ 1.069 OG & 1.011 FG + a level 5ml measuring spoon in 500ml bottles.
Plenty gas on opening the bottle but not so much in the brew, (I put that down to the plastic expanding and not forcing it into the beer as well as glass)
Just got to resist the rest for the next 10 months.
Tell you what though, that stuff has some serious poke! slept like a log!!

What I meant monkeybrew was cap them then wax seal the tops just to make sure they are air tight for long storage. The wax mixed with the glue sticks make it more pliable when removing

Re: Brewferm first kit
Brewferm kits are pretty much the best you can buy ( especially if belgians are your bag
)
So far, I've made Trippel, TarweiBer, Pils, Gold, Xmas and Diablo, and gave my Ambiorix kit to my brother when he ran out once ( although it was sampled
); I''d say the "weakest" kits were the pales (Gold and TarweiBer) - but still made exellent standard beer - but the high gravs and ESPECIALLY the Xmas are sublime
You need to get the Xmas on now, and read the instructions carefully as it has some "quirks" - it'll be conditioned well in time for Xmas 2017
- but it just gets better and better - still have a few bottles of my 2012 brew left for a special occasion.
If you're looking to add a little extra to the sealing (and as MB says, crown caps are more than adequate) then capping and then topping off with a heat shrink wine bottle sleeve will be all you need.

Made my trippel with Golden Syrup and some extra light spray malt (which changed the charecter slightly) - wish I had some left to try now too !

Re: Brewferm first kit
No need for wax and glue as the crown caps will keep the beet air tight. For example you can get Harvey's Imperial Russian Stout and Coopers Vintage Ale that has been in a crown capped bottle for several years; personally I've had a four year old Harvey's which tasted amazing.Newbrew1 wrote:What I meant monkeybrew was cap them then wax seal the tops just to make sure they are air tight for long storage.
