Urgent Help needed Please........

Post by WalesAles » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:58 pm

Hello All,
My `OSH` clone has been in the fridge since Sunday.
Sent off for my `HBF` entries yesterday and realised that the bottles have to be Brown.
I put all my beer in a Mini-Keg and clear bottles.
Will it be OK to pour the beer gently back into brown bottles and reseal immediately?
Will I need to add any more priming sugar?
Am I doomed? :D #-o
All help greatly appreciated.

 You have two problems, oxidation and contamination. You might get away with both, but then again...... If you're quick I think that the conditioning process could scavenge the oxygen and as long as the priming was done evenly, bulk primed with syrup ideally, then I believe you should be OK on those two counts. The big unknown is what is going to happen the moment you open the bottles, chances are some fermentation could have occurred already, in which case foaming is going to be a problem. You only need 2 or 3 bottles so you should get round that. Can I suggest you do your decanting next to a flame, this will provide an updraught and help keep some of the nasties at bay. Proper sanitation at all times hopefully goes without saying. Good luck. :D

Thanks for the replies.
I didn`t go for the brown paint option! #-o
Bottles opened with a small hiss, couple of tiny bubbles, no sediment moved. Let`s hope they are ok! :D

Should these bottles go back in the fridge or the front room?

Have they carbed up properly yet if so fridge if not the front room, assuming it is heated.

Agh, the refrigeration will have helped to keep them from foaming too badly. What I forgot to mention was refrigerating the transfer bottles would have helped with preventing foaming too, but you obviously coped OK, did you lose much in the transfer? Good luck in the comp.

orlando,
I didn`t lose one tiny, little, weensy, weensy drop on transfer! :D
Lucky me! :D =D>
Transferred 2 X 330ml bottles as well so that I can have a `Taster` before the comp to see if they are worth taking in.

if you keep clear bottles in the dark there will be no problem with them. You don't even need a dark cupboard. just cover them with a towel or something. Beer isn't like vampires - it doesn't turn to dust as soon as the sun shines on it, though in a clear bottle you need to cover it up.

As I understand it brown are only used as light effects the beer. Clear bottles in the dark should be absolutely fine.
Bit too late now but just for future reference.
