Hoppy Vienna Pale

Post by Hanglow » Sat Apr 02, 2016 2:39 pm

I brewed this a few weeks ago and just tried a bottle after a week carbing up. Still need a couple more weeks but it's very promising indeed. I'll be tempted to use an all vienna base again. And the slovenian hops are very tasty

I forgot the dry hop though #-o So I'm just calling it a pale ale. Still has a fair bit of aroma

Yeast was US05 and my water was fairly sulphate forward ,

I do love that Weyermann Vienna Malt, my young Chinook and Equinox APA that has just under 50/50 Vienna and MO as the base malts, and the malt flavours balance the hops nicely IMO.

Cheers

I've done a 50/50 like that before too, I think it was a centennial IPA although I can't quite remember. It's a nice base malt for sure

I'm going to do a weyerman Munich 1 based one next, with a bit of cara red.

I'm using up my Weyermann Munich 1 (about 33%) with some Pilsner malt and wheat malt in my next brew (Blonde Ale), and it will be interesting to compare the resulting flavour of the Munich with their Vienna Malt.

I'm going to use some more of my Vienna with MO 50/50 as the base malt for a standard bitter, as it just adds a malty richness that appeals to my taste buds.

Cheers
