Blending Dried Isinglass Finings

Post by Wez » Thu Jul 19, 2007 10:09 pm

Just spent 20 mins burning the blender out and i'm still not sure i've got it right!

I have to Brupaks Dried IF and the instructions say "Using a kitchen blender of whisk, slowly add 1 tsp of IG to 500ml water until a smooth homogenous blend is achieved"

Well I followed these instructions exactly and also added 1/2 tsp lemon juice as-per Joe at Leylands instruction, blended for 20 mins, and ended up with a thin cloudy white fluid, smooth it aint, watery it is, have I got it wrong? Anyone got any experience with this product?

Help!!!!! I need to add IG tomorrow and need it prepped tonight

The last brew iused dried IG it went in the brew after the initial mixing.
It seemed to do its job but not having done it any other way its hard to make a comprision.

Going to try the fridge method next time to see it the brew clears any quicker.

I used dried Isinglass for years. A level teaspoon in about 400ml of water in my blender would reach the consistency (and appearance!) of wallpaper paste within minutes. I'd then leave it in the fridge overnight before using.

I found it extremely effective.

That said, I was once given some ready-mixed Isinglass from the home brew shop which was very watery with just a few bits floating around in it. Worked just as well, though....?

Nowadays my LHBS doesn't stock Isinglass anymore but I've found "Beer Brite" to be the next best thing.
