I've just bought a 5l mini keg of wheat beer from lidl and I'm worrying about the instructions . it says to open the valve on the top, to release pressure, then pull out the tap and pour the beer. My concern is the first bit. If I open the pressure vent will the beer not go flat? I'm not going to be drinking all 5litres in one go.
Has anyone got experience of these?
Thanks

Re: Not strictly equipment but...
Most of these mini kegs need drinking within about 3 or 4 days for best taste, after that the beer gets flat then starts going bad.
I had one of hobgoblin from asda which had a strong metallic taste from the beginning, haven't bought a mini keg since.
I cut the tops off the used ones ive had to use as plant pot holders, I think they look good

What you can do is not open the top vent at first, but just the tap. It'll be very foamy to begin with, but it'll settle down soon, and it means you can have a pint or two before letting in the air. But sooner or later you'll have to vent it, and then you've a few days to drink the lot. Remember to close the vent after pouring a pint, it keeps the fizz in.
