Reusing yeast

Post by AFewTooMany » Sat Apr 30, 2016 10:28 am

I'm using an 80 shilling of ~4% to grow a nice big healthy yeast population before doing a wee heavy at ~9% in a couple of weeks. I normally keep brews on the yeast cake for a week or two once final gravity is reached.

So my question is am I better top cropping and using a starter to grow more yeast for the next brew, or just reusing the yeast cake?

Ive left it in the yeast cake before but it did stall in me. I would go for top cropping as the yeast population is actively increasing rather than winding down. Good luck
