Copper Dragon - Golden Pippin

Post by vaudy » Thu Jul 26, 2007 3:44 pm

Golden pippin is a summer beer brewed by the Skipton brewery - Golden Dragon, it is so popular that it is now brewed all year.

Having had a couple of pints last night with a friend I was challenged to come up with a clone.
I have posted a couple of times in the recipe section with regard any suggestions in respect of this brew, I got no response.

I would appreciate any views with regard the attempt that I am going to try.

Length 50 litres; O.G. 1038; F.G. 1009 A.V. 3.9% (80% Eff)

8.012 kg Maris Otter

This has been based on the info available on Copper Dragons Wedsite.

With regard to the hops, this is the area that I am struggling with.

East Kent Goldings 15 ebu's; First Gold 13 ebu's

Last 15 min 30gms W.G.V.; Dry hop First Gold.

The characteristics of the brew is very light flowery aroma from the hops.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated enabling amendments prior to brewing.

Cheers
Vaudy :)

With regard using the right hops to gain a flowery/ fruity taste to the finished beer.

I haven't tasted this but based on what you say Vaudy I wondered if there could be Fuggles used as late copper hops, as it is quite floral?

EDIT: The Copper Dragon website says that a 'new variety' of hop is used - I wonder if that is Amarillo?

I've had it a couple of times (nice beer), but afraid I couldn't begin to tell you what's in it, sorry.

You could try emailing them, they might just be nice enough to give you a response...?
