BM Filter plates
BM Filter plates
The ones that come with the BM seem to let quite a bit of grain though ( the thin ones ) so id like to either replace them or at least add some silicon tubing round them but am unsure of best specs for purpose.
Has anyone done this ? can anyone make recommendations? i am after a simple solution as possible!

Re: BM Filter plates
Silicone edging around the top plate. I'll double check size required later.
Re: BM Filter plates
Are you sure the grain is passing through the filters or are you spilling some whilst filling the malt tube. In six years and two BM's I have never had a problem.

Re: BM Filter plates
I think what can cause problems is the central rod has enough flex so that without a little OCD the top plate can be slightly off centre, closed one side and slightly open the opposite side. The silicone edging helps centre the plate in the malt pipe, creating a tighter fit/no gap.
Try this. You want Stock Code '3018102'.
Edit: As IPA recommends, fill in the malt carefully. I use the Speidel hood (up side down) as a funnel, which is perfect for the job.

Re: BM Filter plates
The other alternative is to buy a BAC top filter plate & screen, both sit on top of the MT.

Great thanks McMillan, will get that ordered. Yes the problem currently is that however you shift the filters or malt pipe there is always a gap somewhere. No issues with spillage as I currently use ingredient packs where you just snip the corner and it poors in smoothly.

Although down as a Grainfather seal I have used this to good effect. It creates a nice seal.
