Hi all

Im sure we've had this out before but what's the best set up on the software with regards the IBU hop calculation. My software is "Strange brew" Ive got a choice of:
Tinseth
Rager
Garetz
HBU

Mine is setup on Tinseth (default) just had a little sample of my recent brews and they all taste a bit under hopped.

The thing is they're all estimates. The trick is to stick with one and then learn how your beers come out at a given predicted IBU. You then will know whether to increase the bitterness to suit your pallete

FWIW Rager and Tinseth are popular choices.

There was a recent Basic Brewing Radio podcast on this and compared formula predictions with the actual lab derived answer. The answer was none of them are right all the time but some are more right than others!

Hands up for Garetz.

I find it closest to Wheeler

Cheers for that lads, my beer has always been up at the top end of the IBU parameters, they are nice, but I wanted to calm the bittering hops down a little, more like an ordinary pub pint. I thought Id take it down to the middle of the IBU parameters, but it seems to gone too far, but still drinkable. I was just wondering if I should have been using a different calculation other than Tinseth. Going to try a bit of dry hopping to give it a little more aroma.
