Has anyone else had trouble stopping their thermowells leaking. As I see it there just isn't enough shoulder for the o ring to sit against and the diagrams where the washer sits against the shoulder will not work either because fluids can easily go down the threads. I can only see three solutions.
1) PTFE tape 2)Leak sealer such as Fernox LX 3) Weld the washer to the shoulder
Has anyone else got a better solution?

The missing home brewers favorite sealing trick is missing from you list - a diy silicone baking sheet washer, easily cut with scissors its both heat and food safe and is a soft consistancy that squeezes to fill thread voids when comporessed by a securing nut/washer. under cut the inner hole a tad to ensure a snug fit..
I personally rely on a healthy wrap of ptfe tape, building up tape on the hilt and base of the thread of such fittings can provide a soft compressable sealing surface to squeeze with the tightening nut against the skin of the pot your entering

A dowty washer should stop leaks down the thread.
