Keeping Kegs cool at a party away from Home.

Hi All,

I need some help/ advice/ knowledge from previous experience on how to keep kegs cool away from home at a party.

We are having a surprise party over the coming weekend, and I have been asked if I can provide afew kegs of ales for the party.
Making and taking the ales is not a problem, but I am just trying to get my head around how to keep 3/4 kegs cool.

We are starting out trip to Leicester early in the morning and the party doesn’t kick off until the late afternoon. I was thinking of chilling the ales down to a degree for a couple of days prior to the trip and loading the car on the morning of the trip. I don’t think the contents of the kegs will remain cool for over 15 hours, or will they? Unfortunately, there is no fridge in Leicester in which I can store my brew between arrival and party. The only work around I can think of is to set the kegs individually or a couple at a time, in a couple of black bin bags and filling up the bags with ice and bungee tie the bag shut towards the top. Not sure how long that would work for or how much ice I may go through.

Anyone have any thoughts? Many thanks.

When away with the caravan I take a builders trug full with water and wrap the keg in a towel in the trug. The damp towel evaporates and keeps the keg cool.

They are all the normal 19 litres cornie kegs.

You can buy a bag of ice cubes at a supermarket or gas station and empty them into the trug. Whenever they have melted and the water gets warm. Buy another bag and put it on top. Worked for me even in the summer.

a bowl and a bag or 3 of supermarket ice cubes if you cant overtake the freezer for a few days..

Because the kegs draw the beer out from the bottom of the keg via the dip tube, sit your kegs in bowls surrounded with ice around the base you will chill the beer about to be drawn, just sus out how to keep topping up during the day and how to remove excess water..
