Hi Guys,
After opinions on this recipe for an upcoming brew. I have grown pumpkins this year and wanted to do a pumpkin beer (I loved the Pumking that wychwood did although this will be nothing like it!)
So thoughts are the below:
25L Batch Size (fermenter)
Malts:
3.8KG Maris Otter Pale
1KG Crystal 55L
1KG Munich Malt
0.5KG Flaked Barley
Hops:
45g Goldings 5% Pellets 60 min boil
Other:
1.8KG roasted pumpkin 60mins boil
Pumpkin Pie Spice: 1/2 teaspoon tea infusion to the keg
Yeast: S04
OG: 1.058
FG: 1.014
ABV: 5.7%
IBU: 23

I’d advise to buy one before brewing this style - I’d planned a brew for ages and didn’t like the Wychwood one at all (I do normally like their beers).

Use butternut squash instead of pumpkin and don’t come go too mad with the spices

Only 6/7 weeks late to reply...
I messed up on this one - was only 3rd brew in the new unit. Efficiency was low and I ended up with 25 litres. So I ended up at 4% rather than 5.7% (High FG too).
I still have some - nice amber colour and good flavour. Nothing too overpowering but you can taste the spices. I put half a teaspoon into 19 litres... and you can taste it well. Some people put a lot more in but not what I was going for.
It would have been nicer if I'd improved the efficiency and the FG had finished lower (was 1.014). Alcohol of 5-5.5% suit the style.
