Brewday mistake--oops!
Oh dear. Just added 30g of Motueka hops 30 minutes before the end of the boil instead of 15 minutes before the end. Silly me!
Graham Wheeler's Beer Engine tells me this will raise my final EBUs from 50 to 56. Quite a jump.
The OG should be somewhere around 1.053. From 78% pale malt, 15% Vienna malt, 3.5% pale crystal malt and 3.5% flaked oats.
How much difference do you think this jump in EBUs will make to the finished beer?
Thanks.
Guy

Agreed. I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference by taste.

Recently enjoyed a very heavily hopped Motueka SMaSH in a micro pub locally. Sure you will enjoy it, might even improve it from the original recipe!

Re: Brewday mistake--oops!
fwiw with my #1 biab brew i separated my hop packs into bowls to a) use and b) repack/store, when it came to the main boil hops i stuffed my socks with the fuller 'save' bowl contents and didnt realise until a good 30 minutes into the boil.. pulling the hot sodden and packed hopsock unknotting and extracting an arbitrary volume/mix of hot steaming hops from the sock was an experience and the resulting brew did leave one puckering a little post sup
I quaffed every drop with relish tho ..

ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate

Very little. I wouldn't worry about it. Not much you can do about it anyway!
I accidentally put about 5g of Enigma in the fermenter before the wort was even cold... Woops! Beer tastes good, don't care.

Thanks all. Seems as though my slip up won't be of major importance.
It'll be interesting finding out how a 56 EBU beer tastes. Never made one this high. From the comments on here I'm kinda thinking perhaps the exact EBUs don't matter.
I spend ages on Beer Engine tinkering around to get 42, or 46 or 50 or whatever EBUs. Perhaps I'm just wasting my time!

Re: Brewday mistake--oops!
Given all the variables that affect utilisation, plus the different methods of calculation and measurement beforehand, I doubt our predicted IBUs are at all accurate, so not worth getting too hung up over accuracy of the absolute figures. But consistency and repeatability within our own brews and methods is probably more meaningful, especially when refining previously brewed recipes, so some time spent on it isn't wasted IMO.
In this case your target is towards the bitter end of things (for most styles) already, so the effect of another 6units is unlikely to change things very much.

Quite well, really! But definitely a mistake I won't make again. I thought it was a bit too bitter, but perhaps it was just confirmation bias.
