Temperature Control in a Blichmann Conical - Phase 2

...now heating

Now I'm not sure this is going to work as I've only just got this all set up but here we go. I bought one of these

Image

It's a 11"x17" terrarium heater with a fearsome 25W output. Luckily this has one good point....it's self adhesive so sticks nicely onto a conical cone...handy that.

Performance-wise it seems to be able to raise 30L by 1C an hour. Which is hardly blistering but it IS A 25W heater. The idea is to keep a beer warm enough in winter to ferment - hopefully it will work.

I'll give some more feedback when I've done some more tests.

Nice! You could wrap the heater and cone in a camping mat or similar to provide some insulation.

That would definitely improve the performance.

Thats given me an idea :-k

I have a small chest freezer which holds 4 cornies snugly so not much room left over for the usual solution for heating the beer in the winter ie tubular heater, i wonder would one of these self adhesive heating panels stuck to the interior be the way to go. What do you think steve?

PS what sort of price was that jobby?

After a bit of reading it seems that these are for conductive heat and they are sold on their ability not to heat air, seems its probably a non flyer then for my purposes :(
