Has anyone here tried the new Braumeister Ferment lid.

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
Hi Nash,
I have pondered one of these. I have also pondered a bit of silicone seal as a simple test.
I wondered if the element would scorch? Nice clamp though isn't it !

Interesting, don't think it's for me, but interesting.Nashbrew wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 4:50 pmHas anyone here tried the new Braumeister Ferment lid.

I thought it was an interesting idea and might be good if you have the new 2021 with programmable automated cooling at the end of cycle but I assume that you would end up fermenting with all the trub and cold/hot break and are you really gaining anything in terms of hands on time? I would be wanting to do a deep clean of these BM after using it for fermenting and it doesn’t take much hands on time to clean/sanitise a fermenter and to transfer off the trub/break to it.
I would like to see one in action though and see real world thoughts on it.

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
I have bit the bullet (lockdown pub savings)
Not sure when it will get here though, had to order through Brew UK.
The clamp will work well for my still conversion but that's another thread maybe.

Excellent news. Good shout Nash - keep us posted.
Although I don't mind a bit of trub in a FV, all of it is a different thing entirely.
Cleaning - no different? Why would it be?

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
I find there is a big difference in cleaning if you immediately clean the BM after transferring to the fv versus even waiting 5-10 minutes afterwards.MashBag wrote:Cleaning - no different? Why would it be?
Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
70 Euro for a lid to ferment in a boiler on top of trub and debris, instead of using a nice clean FV and keeping it in a temperature controller fridge makes no sense to me.

I guess they are persueing "one pot".
I am going to wait and see what Nash thinks. Also might be better for certain styles.
I often brew overnight so it is already in there for 3 days, so another 3 isn't such a stretch.

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
Thanks for the update. Well done that man!
I couldn't wait. I have just bottled my very first kettle fermented 'house beer' in my BM.
Really pleased. I will do this again.
Don't use the BM controller. The elements are too big. These failed the water test. I added a brew belt at the bottom under the BM jacket and connected an inkbird probe 1/2 way up, then covered with a padded jacket.
Cleaning was EASIER than immed after boil.
I have changed my view from "can we get away with it? " to "this is an improvement in process and probably also flavour*"
When its done (7 days) just gently rack it (don't whirlpool obviously) into a secondary. If you have a lower pumped tap just use that (no pump)
Fine seive (veg bag) ..very little crud... Much less than after whirlpool.
After cold crash (I fridge for 7 days) settlings are just the same. Bottled as normal.
I am well impressed with this. Combined with overnight mashing - this makes brewing sooooo easy. Setup Friday rack off fermented beer following Saturday. No brewday.
I taste everything all the way through but first taste of the finished beer will be next weekend. It's currently all in my 3crate inkbird beer fermenter.
I have also reduced my timings from 2+2+2 to 1+1+2... Let's see.

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
Received the lid yesterday the clamp is too small for my BM20 (2015).
Have emailed Speidel to see if the outer diameter of the top lip of a BM20 (2021) is smaller.
Darnnnn!

Re: Braumeister fermenting lid
WOW. Bugger never thought of that.
To be honest if I were you I would return the whole thing & to use the lid (I did)
I put insulation tape over the two vents.and then covered all of it in my insulated fermentation bag, no need for an airlock.
