Hi all
I have just upgraded my peco mash tun/boiler for a stainless steel set up which comprises of a 70ltr boiler with temperature gauge, sight glass tube and ball tap with a 2.4kw electric element and a 50ltr double insulated mash tun with a temperature gauge and ball tap. They were made by a company called Powell brewing in Wales and look really well made. Has anyone else used this companys products and if so how well do you rate them in terms of usage as I I have not used them yet.
Many thanks

Re: EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
That's a lot of boiler for 2.4kw!! It will be interesting to see if it will boil 70litres.

I agree. I have a 60 ltr plastic boiler I built over a decade ago with one 2.1 kW element.... But a second element was soon added even for 25 ltr brew lengths. Running two elements for at least the first 30 minutes maintains a vigorous rolling boil, much quicker heating times too.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

Re: EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
Same here, sort of. I have a 70 litre SS boiler, although I only ever brew 25ish litres of beer. But I sparge to get about 35 litres of wort. I bought the 70 litre boiler to avoid any chance of a boil over.
The boiler has 2 elements at 2.4kW each which are left on for the whole 90 minutes. Gives a really vigorous boil and evaporates enough water off to get me down to the final volume I want.

Ditto.
Brewing yesterday, both 2.5kW elements were continuously on for a 46 litre boil in a 70 litre pot.

Re: EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
On the separate subject.
I've used Powell for both my herms hlt and boiler (my MT was from lardy/brewbuilder).
Powell's stuff seems really good.
My 100l boiler I was adding 2 3kw elements, he was really helpful over the phone, making sure they were the right heights for what I wanted/elements I was getting.
