Free Kit coming
Well, finally it seems that SWMBO has convinced her work collegue to bring in his brewing kit (he was clearing out and offered to give it to me about 2 months ago).
Looks like I will be getting 2 kegs and 2 bucket fermenters. Was expecting 1 of each. 2 of each is fantastic. The only thing I have to do now is make plenty of room in the shed to store the 2 kegs.
this means in total I should have
3 Kegs
48*500ml bottles
48*450ml bottles (grolch)
This should leave me with enough kit to store about 25 gallons of beer. 200 pints of beer. Damn, that is going to be one hell of a drinking session. Can't wait to get brewing

Well after a long wait it sounds like I should be getting my kit tonight. I did think about pre-ordering a bunch of stuff however it suddenly occured to me that the fermenters might not be what I am expecting. I assume that they will be the cheap bucket style, but it is possible that they might be the more expensive heavier type.
Regardless of the type of fermenters, I am still looking forward to getting everything. I imagine that this weekend will be fairly busy with me having to tidy out the shed.
Damn, it has just occured to me that I still might not be able to brew for around 3 more weeks anyway
LHBS only really carries extract and crap hops. A few speciality grains. Hmmm I guess that I could make myself one last extract brew before going AG. Will give me a chance to buy the last few required things. An extract brew is better than no brew - and it has been waaaay too long since my last brew (and I am slowly running low on supplies!)

I am likely to be able to brew this weekend just getting everything delivered in time would be difficult.
Next weekend I am visiting my sister and her husband so can't brew then. Weekend after is wedding anniversary so can't brew then. Weekend after that is my birthday so it is up to me what I do so if I wanna brew I can brew
Just thought that without grain I can always make a brew this weekend using extract.
Will probably throw in an order tomorrow morning anyway and if it arrives in time all the better

Well, the wife has just confirmed that she has got my kit.
2 brown kegs (old boots kegs perhaps?) and 2 fermenting buckets which are apparently taller and slimmer than my current bin. As long as I can convert them into my Mash Tun (which it sounds like I can) then I don't care
Gonna be a fun weekend for me

Well I have all the kit and my god is it old stuff! It is unlikely that I will use the barrels since they look nasty and just far too dirty. Also, since they are brown it means I can't see inside so won't know if I have managed to comletely clean them.
As for the fermenting bins, they are 2 old 'Boots' bins. There is no chance in hell that I would use either of them for fermenting in. They are scratched to hell and BLACK inside. I will be giving these a good old soak.
As long as they are clean it shouldn't be too much of a problem for mashing since I will be boiling anyway?
Will post some pics later on to show you just how bad all of this stuff is.
I am half tempted to just throw it all away and buy some new kit anyway!

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Aug 4 2006, 09:05 AM)If I was making a bucket in bucket mash tun, I quite fancy those heavier duty 30L fermenters in the hop shop (like JA's). They probably have better insulating qualities than standard too.ÂÂ
Actually all my bins (HLT, mash tun, boiler) are http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/item744.htm (boiler is actually the 60L version).
They are quite solid compared to others - I'd certainly be very nervous boiling 50 litres in some of the bins out there - although they'd probably be fine.
The other advantage of these (and the Hop Shop ones look the same) is that they are nicely tapered, meaning they sit quite low in each other so that the deadspace under the perforated bottom of the tun is small (4L in the case of the 33L bins).
