Wasn't down to high efficiency either Wez, this ale was done at 80%

VERY interesting......
This was the first beer that I racked with preserved issinglass as opposed to all those before that were racked with the tripple strength stuff from the H&G....
I had my suspicions regards my 3 x issinglass and this would bare them out
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the H&G stuff isn't very good, I bet it is, just not when it has to travel through the postal system at none chilled temps

What do you call high efficiency! I get in the 80's sometimes. My next step is to tune the brewing so i'm only getting 65% but extracting the good stuff...hmmm there maybe a thread coming on that subject!

I was getting 80 - 81 % fly sparging but I've now moved over to batch sparging and it's more like 70%.
I'm not educated enough in brewing to say if the 70 or 80% will make a difference. My latest result at 80% is very good but there are far wiser home brewers saying that lowering efficiencies leads to better results and that's good enough for me
If I find out their maltsters,,,they'll be hell to pay

I'm also unimpressed by some of the isinglass from homebrew shops. Davies gelatin is much better, because you don't have the shelf-life problems.
What I am impressed by, is Brupaks Isinglass paste (though it smells like a dairy farm).

I read your post wrong I thought you were saying that you would consider 80% a low efficiency

(dunce cap on)

My next move is to rack the brews in secondary to corny without any finings at all.
If that doesn't work then it's a case of looking for a cheaper source of preserved IG or to move over to gelatin
Afterall, my bottled beers never have finings added and always come out sparkling clear

And regarding efficiency, I strive for low efficiency, to use up all my crushed malt before it goes stale

Most Homebrew isinglass is rubbish - the H&G stuff is the really deal.
Personally I get mine from a local brewery but it's the same stuff.

Think i'll see if my local micro will supply me some, I get all my hops and grain from them
