Yeast blending
OK so Notts/Windsor 50/50 seems to be a popular blend. Windsor for flavours Notts to finnish.
What's have peeps tried /preferred? All in together? Wait 24hrs for Windsor to have a go? Wait for a particular point, before pitching Notts?
I have thought Windsor / Saf. I do like the way Saf tidies up the bottle.
Thoughts?

I get my yeast from Crossmyloof, but have had success with House + BEòIR, which apparently is equivalent to S-33 + Mauribrew draught.
I'm presently experimenting with House + HøG-NORSK - not sure it is much of an improvement.
I pitch a full pack of each at the same time.

Here I am, right on cue!
Wet yeast and making starters is great fun. Seems to make the beer taste better (more complex) than dried yeast.
Easy peasy as well. Keeps the cost down. One sachet of WhiteLabs wet yeast can easily do four brews.

I would love to be a "wettie" and have the time and schedule that would allow me to know for certain when I will be brewing, and thus give me the time to make a starter, etc. But I don't. I grab time to brew whenever a busy home life and very busy job allow.
So my mission is to find a blend of dried yeast that I can make decent English ales with. I might try a tri-blend next.

I have to agree. There is also the nice feeling of having some in stock.
IMO £10/4 brews is £2.50 and that's about the price of a dried yeast. And I can also make that do a few brews.
And if you buy dried in 500g - cheaper still.

So that's another question - how long will that pack of 500g last once opened? Is it really true that you must use it straight away? The two half packets of Windsor and Notty I last used had been open for about a month, beer is absolutely fine but then it was overpitched to compensate.

I reckon it would take me over 5 years to get through 500g of dried yeast, based on 12g per Brew!

Just try harder LOL. TBH its only about 30 odd brews (I pitch at 15g 'cos I have a calibrated:-0 spoon). Then vac pac - certainly it will keep for 3-4 years.
Back on the blending.....

My last dried yeast purchase was a packet of S23 in 2018, used for one brew, My last yeast slants were obtained in 2017, but for reasons other than cost.
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

Well the results are in the Nottingham I cannot tell apart with an identical brew.
Fermenting now, 23l Cascade 120 with 10g of Four (saf04) & 5g Firm (Windsor) Co inoculated.
This will be interesting to taste.
Generally very impressed with these CML yeasts. And let's not forget.. terrific value 5 sachets for £8 inc p&p.

Yeah I've just been out to my shed to check on my latest beer (a lager!). Thermometer out there says 0.9C.
The lucky lager is in the fermenting fridge at a balmy 8.9C!

My shed is a nippy 3c. The BM is fermenting an ale at 19c. Sweltering in its jacket and a sleeping bag wrap.
