Mr Lard

Post by Rogermort » Sun Apr 12, 2015 9:30 am

Is there any means other than email of getting in touch with Mr Lard? I want to buy one of his mash tuns and some other items but his replies are 'occasional'.

You must just have caught him at the wrong time. I've bought a few bits and pieces from him over the last couple of weeks and he's always replied to me fairly quickly.

Good luck!

Communications have now been established and my debit card is hiding behind the sofa.

I am intrigued, I have a Blichmann Hop Rocket and from my other thread debating HERMS/RIMS with myself. I have seen that Blichmann offer one in the states but it would be a hassle to use over here as the amps it takes are greater than our 13A sockets.

How would yours look? Something similar to Blichmann?

its a blichmann, imported, i have 16a circuits/sockets if considering the option it will also cost circa £40 in vat and ups handling charges... the mounting kit that i didnt buy would have been a wise purchase too....

Very nice! I know a spark so have always thought about seeing the possibility of running a high amp socket into my garage as the electricity box is just through the wall in the cupboard under the stairs. Would you just chop the plug and fix your own on the end? You controlling via a PID?

also consider the thing needs a minimum 3l(3/4 of a US gallon) per minute flow rate so tun flow/drainage could be an issue with smaller systems,

as for control. im up in the air on that one, considering the stc1000+pi option, or a bespoke arduino implementation of the arduino pidlib v1.0, or a pid with an alarm relay re purposed to pump control.. but currently mounting and attaching up are the primary considerations (regretting not getting the mounting kit..) and will probably end up with it cable tied to a table leg with a 2x3 timber spacer..

tbh it was a late night impulse purchase after a sample or 12.. not a well thought out plan of action.. more a case of see.... ooo... like ... oooo want .... wheres the plastic..

haha I know only too well of said impulses!! I am swaying to RIMS and seeing as I am only brewing around 40L (pre boil) batches at present I will just go with the standard tube.

I currently have a Blichmann boil coil for the 15 gallon pot which is a whopping 4500 watts which I clearly cannot use, need to get round to selling it but not sure for many in the UK who would have the disposable power on a home set up to make use of it.
