Too late too save money its all ordered.

2 x Buckets hop and grape £10.70 each
2 x taps for buckets hop and grape £8 each
4 x elements and leads Exserve Ltd £11 per set

Total cost per boiler £40.70

I can live with that ;)

I'm sure I could have sourced the taps and elements more cheaply but I couldn't be a**ed

I reakon 2KW elements would maintain a boil ok. I use a Brupaks boiler, it only has one 1.8KW element.

Ok, it does take an age to get to a boil, but once there it will maintain a rolling boil ok with 25L.

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Aug 16 2006, 04:25 PM)I'd be doubtful if the 2kw elements in the cheapo kettles you can get would be up to the task of boiling 25L+ of wort but will be fine for an HLT.
i have done at least 15 brews now with my cheapo element boiler and they are fine.
i use both to bring to the boil then swith one off

I'm off to Te#c0's tomorrow for my two cheapo kettles, if they work out fine I got a good bargain (& the joy of playing about breaking things..hehe) if they don't I get the H & G ones & I've only lost a tenner + I think the cheapo elements should work ok.
I then plan to go for the immersion chiller, although the guy with shaggy from scooby doo looked like he made a counterflow chiller with no soldering - so maybe that;s the way to go. ?

@ Blighty > am i right in thinking you made up your cfc (Celtic Football Club!!nice) without the need of any soldering if so ... nice one mate & any chance of a wee quick note on how to do :D , i'm normally alright at diy, but pluming tends to be an expensive fu#k up, so i don't normally go near it!!
i've been toying with IC & CFC, but if no soldering is involved in your CFC then that may just swing the vote!!

edit: this should be in the cfc v's ic debate!! sorry.

hairytoes - yes I used 15mm compression tee fittings - just treat your hose (15mm) like copper pipe (as it were). I found that the olive dug into the hose and a good seal was created. I also used a 15mm to 10mm reducer for the microbore. You will have to drill out the hole in the reducer to 10mm so that the microbore will slide straight through.

nice one guys, seen some good stuff today in Wickes which should do the job nicely. also seen some space age silver foil wrapped loft lagging for a fiver a roll (about 3-5m) which might be good for wrapping mashtuns up in!
Well hopefully i'll have my kit ready soon enough, maybe before my 1st kit is ready for drinking....now that's progress....so cheers guys!!

I take it that syphon hose gets atttatched to both ends over the copper pipe with holes drilled into it? one from the boiler & one to the keg.
