GW's FLP 60min boil?

Post by Gurgeh » Thu Sep 06, 2007 9:08 pm

I've got GW's recipe for FLP which i'm giving a bash tomorrow night - giving a mate a walkthrough AG.

for IBU 30 he says:

target 17gm
challenger 25gm
both x 90mins

then in the last 15 mins some goldings (20g)

How should i adjust the bittering hops to account for a 60 min boil? promash doesn't have target or challenger...
cheers

Thanks Daab, the friend that is receiving the walkthrough tomorrow has my copy of Palmer - though it would have done me no good as i didn't remember it being there.

I'm going for OG 1.045, which isn't strictly in keeping with FLP, but as i'm using nottingham the difference in maltiness might not be too noticeable...

25.2% to 27% is not that big a difference, given that the inaccuracy of the scales i measure my hops with will probably outweigh (sorry) any recalculation of hop rate!

I'll up it a tiny bit unless you say otherwise (20g target & 30g challenger?)

Thanks again!

that's great Daab.

Target 12%
Challenger 6.1%

the Target is 2005 harvest though

okay i'll go for that then. sorry for not using your hop calculator, i'll have a proper play with it and rework your calculations over the weekend.

Thanks for your kind wishes Adam, i expect i'll have to get a second batch on before the colchester challenge. much comparing and contrasting to be done...

just for interest the rest of you, we've got this going on 20th October. check the challenge at the bottom.

Target, Challenger and indeed Northdown are in Promash as Wye Target, etc. You still need to adjust for the alpha acid of the packet you have.

They were developed at Wye College.

so they are!
Thanks David.

Brew went without a hitch - and considering we were entertaining at the time i feel quite proud of myself, even though i finished 90 mins later than usual and didn't get a chance to do a DFS. chugging away nicely though.
