Which CO2
Which CO2
Just been on the phone to Air Products to arrange a CO2 bottle for my kegs, they have a depot a few mins away and are happy for me to hire a cylinder from them.
I asked for 'food grade' CO2, but they mentioned that the pubs etc normally use their 'Top Gas' grade CO2 rather than the more expensive 'Fresh Gas' ultra clean stuff (which comes with certificates and stuff)
any ideas which one i should go for?
The top gas is 17p/day rental and £30 refill

I tried Air Products and all the distributors I spoke to said that they didn't know how much top gas cost and that it was all dealt with centrally. The one company whose distributors do have a clue seems to be Air Liquide - but there aren't many of them. Mine will be an hour's drive away when I move but will let me have cylinders at £15 a pop with no rental.
Don't bother with BOC either. They'll give you the 'CO2 is very dangerous' health and safety BS and won't let you have any.

Exactly the probem I had. Someone suggested to use a fire extinguisher bottle but the connections look different - can they be converted easily (and safely)?
Another alternative may be the Widget Gas if I can find it over here - can this be used to force carbonate or is it just for dispense?

phone up a few local fire extinguisher companies. one of them is bound to fill CO2 bottles (i.e. recharge fire extinguishers)
go up there and have a chat. they will no doubt be able to make you a bottle up with a wheel valve etc.
my 7.5kg cylinder cost me £35 and a refil is £10. no rental etc. every 10 years i need to get the bottle tested (at the same place) and that costs £10. so even if it fails and i have to get a new one thats only £45 for 10 years of rental. not bad!!
