Its September and the central heatings on!

Homebrewing is changing my life after only a week; I'd usually be suggesting the MRS put on a wooly jumper. It'd be at least October before the switch got flicked for central heating!

Heating will not go on till November in our house.

Maybe the occasional open fire to burn offcuts from the garden.
Like Daab an extra jumper is a lot more pocket and eco friendly

Its different for fermenting beer and wine they will always be heated when needed:D
Fermenter(s): Lambic, Wheat beer, Amrillo/Cascade Beer
Cornys: Hobgoblin clone, Four Shades Stout, Wheat Beer, Amarillo/Cascade Ale, Apple Wine, Cider, Damson Wine, Ginger Beer

My heating doesn't usually go on until November either, but despite having moved to a very, very well insulated house we have had it on a few times now. It has been baltic up here... perhaps a good winter is on the cards!

No heating 'til November??!!? I'm assuming none of you lads are married to or living with a woman. If I tried keeping the heating off until November I'd be bucked out of the house by SWMBO

I'm with Beatnik!
Talking to my wife last night on the phone, she has had the heating on already (and she doesn't normally switch it on until the first frost!).
Unfortunately I live in Service accomodation and the penny pinchers don't turn it on until 1st October.
And they came round this year putting new thermostats on all the radiators so you can't turn them up past tepid!

Its my wifes rule!

Now that winter starts in September and ends in May the fuel bill has to be reduced somewhere and I have loads of jumpers

Surprised SteveD hasn't posted on this one - apparently his missus keeps their place in temperature equilibrium with the Namib desert.

Ours has been on and off since about the middle of august, the slightest chill in the air has swmbo running for the control panel.

Ours was on yesterday for the first time since the spring. We've all got a hideous cold here so it was heating AND jumpers on yesterday. Not a happy bunch in the CB household at the moment.

Think turning on the central heating last night was too little too late  My first ever brew has been stuck at 1018 since tuesday. Since I dont have any yeast enzyme I've gently roused the wort and added another sachet of yeast. If its still stuck come Saturday then at least I can get to the brew shop for the enzyme. I'm certain the temp didnt drop below the 20 mark.

your houses must be cold ours only gets down to about 17/18 at coldest and a heater belt for an hour a day sorts that

The secret is to have a system so feindishly complicated that it takes a pHd to operate....

That or just no instruction manual anyway

Heating

Post by Doug » Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:54 pm

My household heating is the brewbelt. We all huddle around it in an evening for warmth.

TBH if it falls below the required temp all I do with the Fermentation bucket is wrap it in fleecy. worked for me for the past 3 years.

It's all so limp all this putting on your heaters in September malarky. What is this board all full of southerners or are there some hardier folk in here.

Phaaa still t-shirt and shorts around the house weather.
