Excellent work CC

CC - if you insulate the sides of the boiler it speeds up the amount of time it takes to get to a boil dramatically. I use what looks like an identical boiler (the Leyland one), with one element, insulated with hot water tank insulation strips.

Brilliant stuff there CC, and excellent photos of your day 8)

Glad you found the process simple.

And welcome to the darkside :=P

Missed this post yesterday, looks like it went well gr8 pics as well. Now your in the same boat as me, the waiting game, although i dont think it will be that long before having a small sample

I went with the leyland boiler in the end fitted with a second element, H&G told me they are having problems with their elements at present.

Oh no, no, no - that went FAR too smoothly (who cares about a bit of Irish Moss?). Real brewers forget to put the hop strainer in the boiler or spill the sparge water over the kitchen floor or maybe that's just me

Well done CC - and good pics.

J_P the boilers are missing working elements, I emailed last week but got no reply (at least nothing has made it as far as my inbox... but that seems to have been happening a bit lately!). If you could get an update next time you are passing ;-)

As for Uist - nope, that be Shetland... and I no longer inhabit the more southerly of the northern isles anyway being relegated to just outside Stirling at present, well - actually I am currently sitting in a small village called Storth in Cumbria but that is besides the point  I am, however, more than a wee bit familiar with Simmer Dim which I have tested thoroughly over the years! I do like these Scottish microbreweries, they really are doing sterling work in proving that Scottish beer is, infact, rather good - and not in the slightest shit... unless Tennents Lager is being considered - but I would suggest that Carling is no better :=P

Try White Wife though if you get a chance - now that is a fine brew from Shetland. If you want to go Orcadian, and who wouldn't, then I would suggest a sampling of Raven Ale and Northern Light from Orkney Brewery... or if you really get adventurous - and if you can find it - Scapa Special and Munro from the Highland Brewing Co, also on Orkney!
