Post by Tutu » Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:14 pm

My first try, take one demijohn sterilized, add 2 litre's of pineapple juice, add some diced lemon, 600grms of dissolved sugar, top up too around 4.5ltrs with water and some youngs beer yeast put bung with airlock in demijohn, leave until fermentation is complete. Bottle it with some suagr and wait.

Also got some TC on the go, my first batch made with co-op juice and 350grms of honey and youngs wine yeast.

I love this brewing lark and TC is about as much fun as you can have while dressed and at home.

The pineapple is bubbling away like a good 'un the TC is slowly bubbling away at least 1/2 as many bubbles.

Thought I'd try a ginger ale, so I made a starter last night using brewing sugar and some ginger for taste. Boiled up some water then dissolved demera brown sugar 600-700grms. Diluted it to 4 ltr's and added it to the DJ, then pitched the starter. Going to give it 72 hours to build up alcohol content then bottle it (PET's obviously).

Some interesting experimental stuff, TT. Is that your own recipe, or from a book?

I was inspired by subzero's lemon drink so I thought I'd throw any old stuff in and see how it goes.

Thinking of racking the cider and alcopop into 5ltr water bottle's and adding finnings. When completely clear bottling, take it to my friends party (He lives 200+ miles away), chill and sodastream them to get carbonation.

Still got 1 DJ free, I only started brewing 2 months ago but it's darn fun and addictive and since I'm only using beer kits this is an easy avenue to experiment with.

Hey, great that i inspired you with the lemon drink, i myself have only been brewing for about 1 and a half months and i to brew kits and thought TC would be a good way to experiment.

With conditioning i allways after the fermentation is ended transfer to a 5 litre bucket for 2 days then bottle adding a little bit of sugar for carbonation and i get quit alot.

My next experiment as soon as i get some soda stream concentrated drink stuff is a blue berry TC kinda like WKD.

But keep us updated with how it goes and off course how it tastes. But glad your having fun best hobby. ^_^

Just tried the pineapple concoction, it's very very nice. Quite surprised but it tastes like a cocktail and according to my calculations it's around 13%. I carbonated it which was definitely a wise move. I bottled it in 2 2ltr PET's and I drank one with a friend yesterday and my friend who took the other bottle drank it on his own last night. He's badgering me to make more, I think it was a little too lemony. Maybe try 1/2 a lemo 1/2 a lime next time.

Got some raspberry & grape juice fermenting at the moment that smells devine.

Might try fermenting coca cola next.

I have two gallons on the go aswell, had a look around my local Co-op and saw some apple and blackcurrant juice, trying that one on Saturday (my Dad always said that those old demijohns would come in useful).

Coca cola etc.

There may well be a slight problem doing that sort of stuff due to the benzoate etc that are present to retard spoilage thus stopping what you want it to do.

I think :)

You've done better than my mate who (against my advice) decided to make his first batch of turbo 'cider' from 4 litres of pineapple juice and a little apple juice... He dubbed it 'pinery' and suffice to say several weeks later it still tasted like tropical drain cleaner.
