Doubling up kits

Post by booldawg » Mon Oct 01, 2007 1:40 pm

I'm considering trying out the Edme Barley Wine kit. It only makes 12 pints. Would I be able to buy 2 kits and make a 24 pint batch in the same FV? Would I need to use 2 x sachets of yeast?

Thanks Daab. Would seem a shame to have too much empty space in the FV

If you have a big FV why not Quading up to 40ish pints :) it stops the waste in space.

I did contemplate making 3 kits up to make 36 pints. As my FV isnt really suitable for the 40 pint kits (Its a 25 litre one) I thought that'd push the foam over the top (again). I'm planning on buying a 33L FV on next trip to the brew shop.

I've got the 25l FV too, but my next brew is a BOTW London Porter (10 litres I think). I guess I could have doubled up but would then have the problem of trying to find bottles to put the stuff into....

If the beer's good enough I'm sure that it'll be worth all the effort for only ten litres

I'd be ok with 20 pints in one batch tbh. I put an ad on Freecycle like you said to get bottles but nothing came of it. Just as well as I had a call from the landlady of my local, something along the lines of 'When you gonna pick up all these bottles we've been saving for you?'; 50 x 568ml Bulmers bottles along with the crates

I found the far best storage medium was an old filing cabinet in the garage. Each drawer holds 36 bottles  I'm only really using the crates to get them back and forth to the house. I'll see how many they can let me have, I've promised some already to someone but if theres a steady supply....

Don't worry, I was only joking. I think Hampshire is a bit far to come for bottles!

Having a word with your local friendly pub seems to be the best way. TBH I've put enough money behind their bar over the years to warrant a few bottles that they're chucking in the bin anyway. A pub with badly kept draught beer is always good as everyone drinks bottles!
