a Day at the V1 brewery

I had the chance to sit in on a fellow hombrewer today (to see where i was going wrong)

herms system kept the mash temp bang on.
mash recirculation gave an excllent clarity
pumps took out all the back work
trub was left on the hops like thick sludge

and then !!

Uber chiller: ultra CFC took the wort temp from 100C to 16C in seconds
infact it was too effecient and the coolent was restricted to up the pitching temp to 22C.

all in all a great day. my hats off to vossy for his hospitality

That looks a fantastic set up and the finished beer looks incredible. What was being brewed up today at the V1 brewery? :D (excuse my ignorance, but what actually is a HERMS system?) There's so much yet to learn. :D

Have a look at the website of another JHBF member - Phil aka Seveneer for HERMS explaination (and pics of a lovely setup).

Love it, what a great set up. I hope in a few years hmm hmm months swimbo willing to do something along those lines. No doubt i'll have your head annoyed with stupid questions like " so what's a fermenter?" and "when you talk about head are we talking about the same thing?"

My wife actually agreed to me importing a B3 sculpture but I couldn't justify the expense to myself

I saved a lot of money building my own system so she's pretty cool about the whole thing. Although, she wasn't so happy when I spent all yeasterday afternoon drinking 6% porter

Well, 4 hours in and there's a thin yeast head and the airlock is glooping every minute
Dan, I fitted the airlock afterall as I wanted to know how soon the yeast kicked off

A amber flood alert has been sounded in the V1 household
