After trying the bottled version of Deuchars IPA I am left feeling dissapointed.
On opening the bottle I expected to be hit with the styrian aroma but no such luck. Instead it had a slight soapy smell, more akin to EK goldings. The taste was also a let down, no where near the taste I remember which had a definate citrusy almost fizzy taste. This has a far less powerful taste while still retaining the fizzy mouthfeel.
It does retain a head with a very tight, constant array of bubbles forming on top so I assume it has some sort of wheat in it as it covers the whole top layer of beer even half way down the glass and clings to the side well.
The colour is darker than mine, maybe 20% darker, a more amber colour whereas mine is more diluted looking.
It should be noted that the bottled version is 4.4 ABV (and I can taste it) where the draught version is around 3.5+% iirc. I remember the pint I had on draught was so drinkable it was almost pop like.
As mine won't be anywhere near ready for at least another week I can't offer a proper side by side opinion of both so once mine is ready i'll take a few pics and post them hear somewhere for comparison.
To sum up, I think I had better try it in draught form just to make sure what I remember is correct.
I wonder if they'll let me take a pint of mine into the pub, for research purposes m'landlord
As a final note, I am not a trained beer taster, I can only report on what I feel at the time of drinking so don't let me put anyone off from trying this beer.
