back to brewing

Post by Rookie » Sat Apr 12, 2008 3:41 pm

Due to various health issues I haven't brewed much in nearly 18 months (twice). Tomorrow I will be brewing a coffee stout and I don't care a lot how the brew day goes I am just glad to be able to be brewing again.
Since I am a bit rusty I expect things to go less than perfct.
Next five beers: coffee stout, best bitter, mild, honey pilsner and Aurora ale (blonde ale with lemon zest and rosemary instead of finishing hops).
I'm just here for the beer.

Hope all goes well, sounds like you have your brewing schedule sorted out for the next few months!

thats an impressive list of beers and planned out too! I normally make up my mind as the water is heating.

Good luck with the brews.

It went pretty darn good.
I was shooting for a mash temperature of 152 f. and got 153 so no need to mess about. I wanted an o.g. of the low 1,040s and got 1.043.
I'll be racking to a secondary fermenter tomorrow.
I'm just here for the beer.

I racked it last sunday and got a gravity reading of 1.015 which is a bit higher than I was hoping for, but not totally unexpected as my brew room is around 63 f and that is below the reccomended range. I plan to let it set in the secondary for a couple of weeks to see if it drops any more.
I'm just here for the beer.

That should do the trick. Glad your back into brewing. I went 5 years without even looking at a boiler once!!!! Sure made up for it now though. Got it coming out my ears!!!! :flip:
