I hour into the boil and I have just calculated we have a 85% efficiency instead of the 73% planned. I am now adding pH adjusted water to the kettle to try and keep the SG down as I want it 4% ABV. Next time we use less grain hurrah !!

Pictures coming soon

It was a fantastic day - a real pleasure brewing on a larger scale and the best bit was the 'porridge machine' - mixing liquor and grist - this went very well, we miscalculated and established that grist flow needs reducing by 20% but I cannot see this having any impact on brew quality.

The wort looked fantastic, clear after recycling just a couple of liters and tasted good too according to bandit, I prefer to let the yeast loose first myself -I'm a bit old-fashioned that way.

Something new to me was Wort hopping, we put 200g of hops in the boiler before the wort. when a few liters of wort were added the aroma was better than something that smells really nice. and I believe this is the way forward.

Soon as I got home I couldn't stop myself from getting a HLT worth of liquor ready for a brew tomorrow - I'm gonna do something like the Tumbleabout that I had in Derby, mainly because I am supping the last bottle as I type (keyboards a right mess) :D

And the best bit of the day was leaving Bandit to dig out his mash Tun

I must admit I've enjoyed the days I've spent large scale brewing . . . . . and its even better when you have a designated brew bitch to do all the work for you

I need to have a chat with Bandit about his kit . . . . My name is Aleman and I have a problem . . . . I can't stop planning upgrades . . . . Maybe I should give up the brewing and just build kit? . . . . . . . :?

I gave him my "chuck it all on the deck, and shovel it up later" advice - but this is getting debatable in possibility as the brew size gets this big.

I am also jealous of his refractometer. I have seen and I want :D

One of the breweries I've brewed at, has a tippy mash tun, similar to the one Craftbrewer uses on his system . . . Slightly bigger scale as it will hold 75Kg plus of grain  but it makes for an easy life getting rid of the grain as thy get tipped back into the grain bags and then off to the farm for the cows . . . . . . Of course Phil did once tell us of the time when he forgot, and just lent nonchalantly on the mash tun . . . . only to have it tip up and dump the contents on the brewery floor  . . . . . Some swift work with a shovel managed to save the beer apparently
