Hi
Has any one brewed with rye malt, I’ve just got a sack in to try and im going to give it a go, just wondered what flavour it gives. I’ve named the brew Witches Piss are its probably going to taste like it, any way the boiler is on, im just going to start the mash in the next ten mins.

10% rye is pretty safe IMO. My Black Wheat Beer has 22% Wheat and 23% Rye, and was in danger of being really thick and gloopy so I mashed the Wheat and ry separately at 45C for 30 minutes then up to 68C before adding to the main mash (45% Rauchmalt, 10% Carafa Special III ) for an hour.
Its a nice black beer but the smoke phenolics probably overpower the Rye TBH
