Cheapest for Kits - Dearest For Kits

Having just sampled my first brew of Colne Valley Bitter (which I was given) and yes I know I should give it a few more weeks but I thought it was lovely so I am going to brew some more. (Hope it wasn't cos the kit was 2 years out of date)  Having trawled the net (Google) I found some for £18.49 at Brewmart

http://www.thebrewmart.com/a-colne-vall ... 01646.html

Anyone beat that at all :?: :?:

DELIVERY CHARGES
U.K. MAINLAND AND SCOTTISH LOWLANDS
GOODS VALUE UP TO £60 DELIVERY CHARGE £4.50
GOODS VALUE OVER £60 DELIVERY FREE

I also found the dearest (I think) at beer-kits for £ 29.77! They want £ 23.85 for Tom Caxton's Bitter!

Does anyone else think that this 'not so subtle' website plugging from "thedistiller" is anything but impartial advice and more of a sales pitch to drum up business  =D>

I don't have a problem with it, and I do note that the prices are pretty fair, (just put the delivery prices somewhere I can find them without having to create an account or log in!) Thanks :)

Actually they have on the home page

"We offer FREE delivery within Three working days on all orders of £60 and over.
Any orders under £60, there will be a charge of £7.50."

And to be fair their beer kit prices are good - look at the Woodfordes. But I can't see any of the Brupacks range on there yet #-o

Ah yes, sorry, I'd always gone into the site from a product link rather than the 'Front of house', I'm very expectant to find a link called 'Delivery'... its £7.50 :)

And indeed good price, on filling my basket with the same 3 items at the following places:

http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk - £66.52
http://www.creativewinemaking.co.uk - £57.47
http://www.hopandgrape.co.uk - £62.67
http://www.leylandhomebrew.com - £65.42
http://www.simplynatural.org.uk - £65.12

Simply natural probably being the most apt comparison due to their range of equipment and beer kits, creativewinemaking.co.uk does work out about £8 cheaper all in.

nice bit of research pdtnc. when reading this it did feel like a plug. however, no matter what - if you have a brew shop near to you, funning use it or it will close. thats my motto for y2k+9

Those prices include delivery of course.
Shame there isn't a HBS near me, the best I've got is a health food shop with a Home Brew Corner, which for the size of their section isn't too bad...
There's BarleyBottom within a 5 minute drive, but thats not really a 'Browse the beer kits' type place and I've not yet bought anything from him (though Hops next time!)
Keighley has a gap in the market and empty shops... *anyone see an opportunity here?

Cheapest kit Ive done recently is Difinitive bitter from Youngs .I bottled on 2nd Jan and its just about cleared but still has slight haze. The kit was £6.99 from Wilko in Droylsden but bke was £4.99 so pushed price right up.I used the yeast that came with kit and it left a very fine sediment that disturbed with the slightest movement.Primed as usual with one tbl spoon table sugar 2lt bottle.First bottle opened very lively ,bubbles shot up from bottom and made the beer cloudy  Tried to syphon beer out into jug and it was more froth than beer and wouldn't syphon :cry:I ended up with 0ne inch beer six of head.Tried different approach next.Opened bottle to let co2 out then put top back on and left it for a few hours to settle.Much better to syphon with great frothy head :D Tastes ok but not great.Thats why I do coopers kits ,no pissing about just great beer with no fuss .Coopers kits are £9.50 from Innhouse brewery so for another £2.50 why bother.
