geordie mild
geordie mild
just a quick question
i'm fermenting a batch of this at the moment, I think i've read on here about people adding black treacle to the mild kits. Should this have gone in at start of fermenting or could i use it in a keg instead of priming sugars and if so how much

Re: geordie mild
Yes and yes
Either works but you may find the overpowering flavour of the black treacle works best in the primary as some of the flavours will be driven off by the vigorous fermentation, using a small amount in the keg for priming will also have a similar after taste but getting the quantities right for you will be trial and error.

Re: geordie mild
in dave lines book bbltyb he primes his old peculiar recipe with 100 grams of black treacle, i seem to remember doing it when i first did homwbrew in the 90s and it being a cracking pint
not so sure about in a mild tho.

Re: geordie mild
OMG
just drew a pint of this from the keg very very pleased with the result, nothing to compare this with as its my first mild kit but lets say it reminded me of a mansfield mild. The treacle just coming through in taste not as strong as i thought it might be, off on monday for another kit

Re: geordie mild
Hi chap, how long did your Mild take to finish fermenting? I have been waiting 6 days for mine and still no sign of action, will check today its SG, just in case it brewed the first night!

Well 6 days on and its sitting at 1012, but it does seem to have some alcohol in it, so maybe somethings happening?
