Recommend me a tasty Session Beer?

Post by Jerry Cornelius » Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:31 pm

I cocked up my Speckeld Hen and ended up with 35 pints of 6.3% ABV beer - Speckled Eagle, now  . I suppose I could've watered it down, but to be honest I didn't really think about it until now. I'll leave it alone until the Christmas holidays, and then hopefully it'll be a treat to have a pint now and then... (don't really like strong beers, but I think I'll try this, and give it away if I don't like it!)

So, I want to make a couple of brews of around 3.5 - 3.8% bitter (or mild, perhaps) to give me something to drink between now and Christmas, and need something that will be ready fast.

I've got M.O, Crystal, Dark and Chocolate malt. And EKG, Fuggles, Styrian and Challenger hops.

I've got GW's BYOBRA book and there are some recipes there that would seem to suit, except I've never tasted any of them and therefore don't know what'll be good one to try. Can anyone recommend me something from this list (sorry it's rather long)? I'm tempted towards The Timothy Taylor, because I like the Landlord bitter, but open to suggestions. Thanks to anyone who replies! :D

Arkell's Mash-Tun Mild
Bank's Bitter
Bank's Original
Brakspear Bitter
Cottleigh Tawney Bitter
Donnington BB
Exmoor Ale
J.W. Lees Bitter
Theakston Best Bitter
Timothy Taylor Best Bitter

My last brew was the Timothy Taylor best bitter and though its not quite ready to drink yet it already tastes great. I do recommend it.

no one mentions Coniston Bluebird bitter.
My viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26797 recipe is basically it with added extras, its tasting mighty good at bottling stage... time will tell though. :)
