What would you ask Brewdog?
Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
There's a 3 page article on BrewDog in this month's "Brew Your Own" magazine.....along with clone recipes for Punk IPA (says Columbus, Ahtanum and Amarillo), Hardcore IPA (Simcoe, Warrior, Chinook, Amarillo) and Riptide stout.
Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
Interesting, any ideas on quantities here.to the hops listed on the website for punk ipa, you can add simcoe. they have recently changed how they add the hops for the punk, but its chinook and ahtanum at the start of the boil, then after 30 mins the same again, then when the boil is switched off a mix of chinook, ahtanum, N S and simcoe go in for 30 mins and for the last 10 mins those 4 go in again!
Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
that sounds interesting il have to get hold of a copy of that!
ive got the quantities writen down, but only if you want to make 53'000 litres of it haha. im going to scale it down and just work out the % of hops.
we added 4kg chinook and 2.5 kg ahtanum, then the same again. then the last 2 additions of hops was 5.5kg chinook and 2.5 kg of each ahtanum, nelson sauvin and simcoe divided into 2 equal batches. that final amount used to be added all together at the end of the boil and left for 30mins but recently they changed it because they wanted to get more out of the aroma.
they really are still perfecting all of their beers, i would say none of them have a set in stone recipe yet.

Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
What are they going to do when they get to the end of Sam Calagione's book and, effectively, run out of his ideas to steal?

i would try get the ibu's up above 60 though, their website says 65. but then their website says the OG is 1.052, and the gravity we were aiming for on saturday was 1.056 (the first batch was 1.059 so we were trying to get 1.053 on the second batch to even it out)
i think i will give it a go at some point, but of those 4 hops ive only got Nelson Sauvin at the moment.
Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
I've never seen Ahtanum available to buy in this country either.
The IBUs are not adjusted for alpha acids so that recipe is just for a rough idea of quantities.

Re: What would you ask Brewdog?
Out of pure interest, how did you manage to visit and help out? Did you just ask and they said yes, or is it some sort of scheme or something that they run? Thanks for the info by the way, very interesting.
Re: What would you ask Brewdog?

Nice one, wouldn't mind a trip up there myself some time.
Met James at a tasting a few weeks back and he seemed a genuinely nice bloke.
