Evening, Is it possible to make a decent Stout using the extract method? If so, has anyone got a recipe they can share with me?
Thanks

I just tried this recipe as my first every extract brew. It went well, I think.....

Bubbling away now. However, instead of OG of 1043 I got an OG of 1038. Is this a big problem or nothing to worry about? I used 2 tins of brupak pale LME instead of Maris Otter.
BTW, I like the pictures above and nice labels too. Where did you buy the stickers?

I got an OG of 1044 using DME but I did add an extra bit of chocolate malt. I have found in my limited experience of extract brewing that you rarely achieve the OG, perhaps thats because we are using extract (which i presume can vary)? Your brew will be fine if slightly weaker perhaps.
The labels were made on Open Office or PowerPoint (depends if I am at home or at work!), printed out on cheapy paper and stuck on using Pritt Stick.

Hi, Tried this stout last night and I was quite impressed. Tried it alongside a Milestone Black Pearl. The Black Pearl did not smell like stout. The extract stout smelled and tasted as it should!
I will make this brew again!

Apparently milk is quite a good adhesive for labels. Never tried it but keep meaning to.

just sampled some of this of easter and it is a really good brew. Would recommend it to a first time extract brewer. Tastes fantastic! Also you can add a bit more chocolate malt as suggested above.
