#68 Red Indian - Ruby IPA

Post by floydmeddler » Tue Apr 12, 2011 8:32 pm

Have enjoyed a few red IPAs recently so thought I'd give one a shot. I created the recipe then contacted Kim at Worcester Hop Shop (http://www.worcesterhopshop.co.uk/index.php) and she made me up the kit for £9.99. Was very happy with that!

If this recipe turns out as well as I hope, Kim will put the kit on the website if any of you fancy giving it a go.

Red Indian

Terminal Gravity: 1.010 (1.010 - 1.018)

Alcohol: 5.36% (5.0% - 7.5%)
Bitterness: 35.5 (40.0 - 60.0)

Ingredients:
3 kg Munich Malt
2 kg Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt - TTS

Ingredients arrived really well packaged

Looks great. Hopefully Bobek and Cascade will be a winning combo. :D

Oooooh they are... This should hopefully taste a little like Admiral's Ale actually.

Heating the strike water:

The beautiful mash:

Mash temp spot on. Moved up to 67.5c over the course of the mash:

Wort recirculation. Using my mate's smaller MT as it is less bulky than mine:

Sparging. Ran off at 600ml a minute and still managed 82% efficiency. Result!

First wort hopping:

Nearing the boil:

In the fermenter now. Gravity 1050 - 25.5L. Fingers crossed this will be what I'm after. Wort tasted great anyway!
