Brewday 20 April 07 (planned) - no name...
I've got a day to have another go at AG on Friday. I started out with Dave Line's 6X recipe, but then started to fiddle with it, replacing the invert sugar to an equivalent amount of malt, and came to the following:
Size: 23 L
Efficiency: 70.0%
Attenuation: 75.0%
Original Gravity: 1.041 (1.040 - 1.048)
==========#=====================
Terminal Gravity: 1.010 (1.008 - 1.012)
=================#==============
Color: 17.8 (5.0 - 16.0)
=============#==================
Alcohol: 4.07% (3.8% - 4.6%)
=============#==================
Bitterness: 25.11 (25.0 - 40.0)
========#=======================
Ingredients:
3.7 kg Maris Otter
0.37 kg Crystal Malt
0.47 kg Flaked Maize
30 g Goldings (4.8%) - added during boil, boiled 90.0 min
15 g Brambling Cross (5.8%) - added during boil, boiled 90.0 min
5.0 mL Irish Moss - added during boil, boiled 15 min
1.0 ea Fermentis S-04 Safale S-04
Suppose it's no longer DL's 6X but something different, but I can't think of a name right now. I'm working with the efficiency I got last week for now. Oh, and I added a touch more crystal for colour, and brought the bitterness up a bit.
Does this look OK?

I think you're right about the hop quantities DaaB - My 6X (using DLs recipe slightly modified - glucose IIRC instead of Golden Syrup) was a bit over hopped for my taste.DaaB wrote:I brewed DL's 6X exactly as is, the only thing i'd change would be the hop quantities. I'd drop them by 10-20%. Otherwise the recipe is A1 imo

I have the 1984 cheapskate from eBay version! Maybe I'll use that & just use the original recipe. The alcohol content still looks a bit low, however - Wadworths have it as 4.3%DaaB wrote:Probably just as well to leave out invert sugar as the recipe in my book (2002 ed) at least doesn't use it![]()
Actually, before someone jumps all over me, I believe in the preface it says that some of the recipes have been modified to reflect what the book reviser considered to be available in your HB shop.
The current edition calls for 300g of brewers sugar, I presume this replaces invert sugar. IMO it does the trick
