Hello and free yeast

Post by Brewmeister » Sun Aug 12, 2012 5:22 pm

Just wanted to come and say hello as we are new to this forum, but heard many great things about it.

We are a small brewery operating in Scotland so if anyone needs some free skimmed yeast from our fermenter just let us know.

Happy brewing! :D

Hello and welcome,

I'd love some free yeast, but presume it would be dead by the time it arrives in Australia, so maybe one day I'll come and visit your brewery instead. ;)

I think the Aussie customs would have something to say about live yeast, but you're very welcome to visit next time you're back

Hello Brewmeister

Excellent first post, and welcome.

Sadly I'm down the other end of the country from you, so can't take advantage of your offer of yeast.

Tell us a bit about your brewery, though. Specifically, as this is a home brew site, give us some insight on things such as the grain and hop mixes you use, the yeast you use, fermentation times, conditioning regime and times from mash to drinking.

Glad you're here.

Hello guy,

Thanks for the interest. We use a variety of malts, hops and yeasts.

Malts: Our flagship beer, Brewmeister blonde has caramalt and munich for sweetness. In the other beers we use anything from black malt to lager malt. We also add wheat and flaked oats to some of the beers.

Hops: They differ in each beer but we use perle, fuggles, first gold, hallertau mittelfrüh and saaz to name a few. Some of the beers we make are lightly hopped such as the Dark Lochnagar to represent the way beer was made in Scotland in the past as hops were in short supply then. Others are hopped to the brim, it just depends.

Yeast: kolsch, safale, danstar. We have also been lucky to get hold of a very old strain from a brewery in Germany which has evolved over 100 years. We're developing a beer with that just now.

Water: All of our beers are made with 100% scottish spring water.

The beers we make are the Brewmeister Blonde, Brewmeister Ten (10.1%), Black Cock, Dark Lochnagar, Deeside Pale Ale, Blueberry Porter and we're also developing the Brewmeister Armageddon which will generate some headlines

We are on facebook where you can see pictures of the brewery https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brewmeister/175069945613

Actually AQIS (Quarantine rather than Customs) are not so bad, they adjusted the import-conditions so I could order yeast from BrewLab on malt-agar slants, and we do get Wyeast/WhiteLabs liquid yeast OK. ;)

I've never been to the UK, but both my (mothers) family and SWMBO's (both sides) family are from Scotland, so it's on the places to visit ... one day.

Do you do tours/site visits?
If so I may be being a bit dim but I can't find an address on your facebook/website.

Welcome, Brewmeister!

I love the sound of the Blueberry Porter, and the shot of the PA in the water is very arty and makes me thirsty just looking at it. :D

Free yeast you say? That'd be great and a very generous offer - I'd love some. I'm based down in the South East - would that work? Would it still be alive whn it got here? If not don't worry, but still a kind offer.

Dave.
Currently Drinking: Marris Otter with home roasted porridge oats, shredded wheat, crystal and black malt, EKG hops and Nottingham yeast. Smooth, dark, and rich - put some aside for Xmas.
Currently Drinking: Bohemian Pilsner with porridge oats, shredded wheat and basmati rice, along with Saaz hops, mandarin zest, coriander, cardamon pods and Munich yeast. Silky on the mouth with a wonderful summer taste. Love this brew!

Morning guys.

At the moment we don't do official tours but as fellow brewers one of us would easily show you about if you arranged in advance.

If you want some yeast posted just send an empty vital to Brewmeister, East Westhall, Kincardine O'Neil, AB34 5AD with a stamped addressed envelope. :D

That sounds very interesting. Is it an old Ale strain (Alt, Kolsch ... or something similar)?

Widmer Brothers in the USA make their Widmer Hefeweizen with German Alt yeast from Zum Uerige - which has proved so popular that home brewers can now buy the yeast as 'American Wheat' (aka Wy1010, WLP320).
