I've been following this and it looks great, but i have to say i'm a little lost. Can you give me a break down of how its planned to work.

The "R" referred to is I would expect laser burn (as I believe the disk has been cut with a laser) I have some pickling paste so it wont take much to remove it (everything is stainless).

As for the tube and discs they were made by a well know (yet new member to JBK) I`ll let him come forward should he wish to.

I will work on a spec sheet of parts used, cost wise its looking at about £300.00 all in.

As for construction if you can cut a hole in stainless and use a few simple tools there isn't much to it.

Next step (not for me) is to either follow Matho pcb deign for his version or use a simple Sestos PID and timer BS3 would work very well to introduce a little automation.

Still need to see who this works + still need to brew with an "original" version to see how they compare.

The first test will be to plumb everything in, test for leaks, add 5kg of grain and see what happens.

Hi Barneey, sorry I forgot to clean off the slag from the plasma cut (I did remember at 4.30am this morning when I woke and was going to email you to say so but forgot when I finally got out of bed) if you give it a light file it should come away easily.

I already have two pcb`s (in the spares box ) + a list of parts for RS... just haven't - didn't get around to making it (yet). As I have an original "81?3913?211" + a lack of funds at the moment it might very well stay in the spares box.

I used to wire up PCB quite a bit over 20 years ago but find them fiddly now to do.

since i never picked up any soldering skills and have to wear glasses to read anything i take the breadoard and hot glue gun approach to electronic solutions
easy to test component at a time and the boards have sticky backs for a reason

shouldt take too long to wire it all up on a breadboard, and the arduino side is all done, and the base sure has enough space in it go Matho!! even if its just for the mash profiling ..

Out of interest Fil, what do those arduino boards matho had need doing to them? I'm about to wire up a PID but I can't help but wonder if I should make the PID into a herms and go arduino instead.... but it looks a bit beyond my current skills/time constraints...

as there are at least 3 complete systems documented in there including Matho's

u can run a pid via a pc on the arduino using the example processing front end hooked into the example ftom the pid library, with just a one wire temp sensor and the SSR to control elements if you wanted.
( i bunged the code for that into jabas thread as i was learning myself) so a maximum of 5 wires to connect to the arduino most will add a lcd and a few buttons for i/o independent of a tethered puter tho

The Matho PCB were professionally made / etched items, they just need the components wired to them.

I`ve PM`d Matho this thread to ask for input.

I fully intend to test "my" build out even if I don't fully complete a brewday as I want to see if the thing works / how it works.

I might then be loaning the build out to others for additional ideas / improvements that could be made OR be looking to sell the project on to free up some cash - depends on how much I "need" a grain mill, as I want to build another "timber project" this time a grain hopper .

The most important thing tho, if the idea is out "again" and the inner tube can be made - think of all the bergland pots there are to choose from OR the MrLard 160`s

I dread to think how heavy the grain would be for a 160L pot :O Would need that cask lifter you got rid of I would think!

I'm building the smaller variant (the one I PM'd you oh so long ago) as we speak, this thread has given me a kick up the bum to get on with it... when I get time...
