I got one of these with a full set of kit I bought off Ebay.

It's not cheap at £27 but it's very good. Very easy to read and spot one when compared to a mercury thermometer.

Considering I got a full AG set up for £70, including this, makes it a bit of a bonus!

Thermapen. I got mine on ebay as a refurbished one but it looked brand new to me. works very well and is quick and accurate.

Always worth searching the Office/Business section of eBay for for ex-food hygiene test thermometers. Picked these two, calibratable, waterproof thermometers for £12-15 each.

If it's food grade stainless then probably OK, otherwise I would not risk it.

I used a cheap stainless colander, from B&N Bargains or similar shop, knocked off the handles, and put it in the bottom of the boiler. Worked fine. After removing the bag I'd fish out the colander with my long spoon.
