Coopers Lager

Post by Hoppkins » Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:01 am

Would beer enhancer (gluscose + spray malt) be suitable for a coopers lager kit. Or would 100% glucose be better?

Thanks

Ok Wilko didnt have beer enhancer anyway BUT i know i have about half a pack in a jar AND glucose lying around.

I plan to ferment this i in my water cooler vessel which holds about 18 litres. This should make it with some more body.

Also i got a cool bag from sainsburys for free which fits snuggly over the top 1/2 of the cooler bottle which i wedge 2 icepacks in. Ill stand the whole vessel in a basin of cold water with 2 more icepacks in to bring the tempreture down to what i hope will be low enough for this kit.

Also the instructions ive discovered specify the fermentation tempreture between 21 and 27 degrees. This sounds high for lager.

Is coopers lager special, also the yeast which came looks like regular coopers ale yeast. Could it be their lager is just a very pale ale?

Dont have time to goto the brew shop so it will have to be all the beer enhancer and some glucose to make it up.

As long as its cold i think it should turn out ok. In the end i knew this wasnt going to be a great beer. More one i would rush to get done and not cost much.

I was going to get a geordie one but for the extra few quid i thought coopers would be nicer :)

The coopers lager kit does come with an ale yeast.

Checked this morning, going like rocket fuel sadly there is a tiny leak near the barrell tap.

When i checked this morning it looked like perhaps 1/4 litre had dripped. I adjusted the tap but i guess the sealent has given way. Hopefully i can go 4-5 days with only maybe a litre lost. In the end if i lose 2-3 litres it will still be worth keeping.

I've suffered this problem twice now, the best thing i've found is (as long as it's not dripping constantly) to leave it alone and let the sugars "glue" the area around the leak. It's worked for me anyway.

Checked this morning and fiddling with the tap did the trick. Will need resealing for sure though.

At least i'm not losing precious coopers :)

Thar she blows. Gravity dropped to 1.005 approx.

When i added priming sugars most of the bottles almost fizzed over!

I brewed a coopers lager with 100% glucose 6 weeks ago. Didn't have any spray malt. Its turned out a nice brew. Go for it.

In my experience Coopers kits are very forgiving of the ingredients. In fact (i never tried) but i bet you would get an acceptable beer with just table sugar.

Obviously though malt etc is best

I was thinking of brewing a Coopers lager in the garage for temp reasons,
However, I have read numorous posts about bottling it instead of a barrel, what you folks reckon?,

Bottles seem too much hassle, But at £8 in wilcos i thought i would try 1,
