Post by alix101 » Sun Nov 20, 2016 9:16 pm

Inspired by other recent posts and the inability to buy this beer I brewed this today.
zymurgy recipie with malt avalibility.
Today's brew.
Crisp extra pale maris otter 4.6kg 3 ebc
Crisp pale ale malt 1.3kg 5ebc
Cara munich 500g 110 ebc
31g centennial 10% 45 min
31g centennial 10% 30 min
10g gypsum mash
10g gypsum boil
Californian ale yeast v 1l starter
28g of centennial straight in with fermentation
100g centennial dry hops day 10 for 4 days.

Not bought from these before hops seemed good and fresh.
I've got another 100g 2016 from the malt miller to use as the dry hops.

Mash in I've started using a grain bag to try and stop the flour burning to the elements worked well. And easy to clean.

Brew finished 1060 3 points shy but I ended up with 23l
So I'll have to do this all again. ..still day went well first time I've been happy with the Bulldog it needed the spider and strainer bag....I'll report back with the end result maybe even a swap if anyone's interested.

What does "straight in with fermentation" mean? Are you adding the hops to cooled wort along with the yeast, or was it a flameout addition? I just tapped my latest 2 hearted clone (4 days in the keg so far), fermented with WY1272. Make sure you report back on this one.

If it turns out any good matt I'll send you a bottle.
Yes the hops were put straight into the fermenter before I pitched the yeast.
The I've seen this technique used on comercial ipas probably more to do with time in the fermenter than utilisation but I had 40g ish left from my packet and I've got some 2016 harvest for the main dry hop ...
I thought id try it given that people said the clone recipie wasn't hoppy enough ,co2 will drive some aroma off but it will be extra hop if nothing else..
